Carol Power:
Vocalist and voice teacher Vocalist Carol Power has been performing jazz/pop/soul for over thirty years. She delights in drawing you into her performance by creatively stylizing tunes old and new with her succulent soulful voice. Carol is also a registered teacher with a Master of Arts (Music) - Contemporary Singing Her performances are all engaging with her cheeky spirit and sassy style . Over the years she fronted the jazz bands all with line ups of highly skilled jazz musicians. The bands being The Mike Nettmann Quartet, U4RIA, Extraordinary Machine, Red Martini and Gin Rickey Jive to name a few. From early gigs in the Bay of Islands THC Carol has rubbed shoulders with musicians of high standing including Roy Phillips of The Peddlers, Mike Nettmann, and Richard Hammond and Ricky Powell. Carol has also performed around New Zealand , Australia, Vietnam and Bali. She has trained at TV NZ vocal programme, and trained with some of New Zeland's top vocal tutors Julie Mason, Suzanne Lynch, Cailtin Smith, Murray Mason and renowned opera singer Julia Booth where she extendied her knowledge of the very effective contemporary singing techniques called Estill Voice International Method. Carol’s vocal influences include classic song stylists such as Nina Simone, Billy Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Anita O’Day and younger vocalist Morgan James, Diana Krall, Sophie Millman, Haley Reinhart, Emille Claire Barlow, Amiee Cyrille, Cecile Mc Lorin Salvant and Samara Joy |
